Margaret (Peg) Watkins holds undergraduate degrees in FineArts (thesis work in ceramics) and K-12 Education. She hasalso earned a Masters Degree in Management. Peg has taughtall areas of art in a school setting, as well as a recreationalsetting and worked for the Omaha Parks & RecreationDepartment for 27 years before retiring in 2007 to devote herefforts to her art.
Over the years she has worked in a variety of media - thirtyyears hand building clay, over 16 years exploring glass fusion,and in 2011, Peg re-discovered her paint brush. After manyyears working with glass and clay she had been anxious to seehow that background would translate to acrylic & oil painting.She has taken a number of classes, and attended the 2017Autumn Art Workshop in Aurora. This past fall Peg joined anonline Cold Wax group.
She joined OAI in the spring of 2017 and has received anumber of awards, and also received an Award of Excellencein the 2019 ANAC show. Peg entered one piece that received1st place in an OAI show in the 2019 NE Biennial at the 1516Gallery. It was accepted and sold to National Indemnity. OAIalso honored her with a scholarship that she used to purchasea USB of a 5 day workshop. Peg now works mostly in oil/coldwax.
In 2013 working with a local designer, Peg completed 10original works for a Riverfront condo. Her art is currently atThe Joslyn Art Museum Gift Shop and the Old Market ArtistsGallery,
This Fun Shop will be based on an abstract painting with anemphasis on color, line and texture. Using the same colorsand supplies, let's see what this creative group can develop. Soleave your landscape, portrait and floral brains at home!
Supplies
- 4-5 painting surfaces at least 8"x8". (Before class: gesso, base coat and dry each with one of the colors listed below**. They do not have to all be the same, but must be one of those colors.)
- 1" paint brush. No other brushes!!
- 1" flat end putty knife (bent handle is best, but any will work)
- 1 additional palette knife or popsicle sticks for mixing paint
- Brayers: 1 soft, 1 hard
- Squeegee (old credit card works)
- Thin kitchen sponge (4"x5") cut in half – NOT ones with the scratchy side
- Heavy/soft paper towels
- Two water bowls
- Something to mix paint on
- Hair dryer
- White
- Black
- Purple
- Turquoise
- Lime Green
- Red
