January 15 General Meeting and Notes

The general meeting was held on January 15, 2017 at Valentinos, 104th and Maple. Called toorder by President, Linda Bernett.

Treasurer’s report by Jo Anne Nielsen of $6404.89.ANAC: Per Jo Anne Nielsen the planning committee meeting will be held in York, NE on March 18. Dateand venue to be announced for the juried selection show in April

.Art Shows: Sharon Clawson brought invitation post cards for the Winter Show at the Jewish Comm. Center.The theme is “Something Old/Something New”. Artists can submit an old piece of art, which never receivedan awrd and or a new piece. See newsletter for dates and time.

Community Art Bridge: Linda Bernett reported December’s lesion was decoupaged plates with 70 students.The club also donated Christmas gift bags to the students. January’s lessons taught 65 students, on“Self-Expressions”, using oil pastels as resist to watercolor. February class will focus on snow men.

Community Art Reach: Sara Wamsat reported donations received at November pot luck luncheon. Moniescollected were split between Art Bridge and Art Reach.

Fun Shop: Katie Johnson reported 18 at January Fun Shop taught by Linda Bernett with texture in mixedmedia. Advised working on setting up future Fun Shops for next year.

Membership: Susan Stevens advises have 3 new members for a total of 120 currently.

Newsletter: Deadline for articles always Friday after meeting, so January 27.

Programs: Katie Johnson introduced, Martin McNabb, from Papio Creek Gems. Martin presented aninspiring and informative program, bringing examples of his body art using gems. Any Omaha Artists IncMembers who go into the shop may purchase a bag of gems which have been set aside with a discount.

Web Administrator: Susan Stevens is continuing to explore more user friendly membership applicationfor our site.

Other Announcements: Linda Bernett will be teaching an alcohol ink workshop at gallery in Malvern, Iowa.Becky Kinloch will also be at the gallery in Malvern, Iowa teaching a watercolor workshop on February 11.Carol Coppi is the featured artist at Tripoint Coffeehouse in Papillion. Mulhalls hosts artists everyWednesday starting at 9am. Members are encouraged to apply for scholarships.

General meeting was held Oct. 26, 2016 / 11:00 am at Charlie’s on the Lake Restaurant. Called to order by President, Linda Bernett.

Treasurers report: $7,013.15 by Jo Anne Nielsen

Art Shows: Sharon Clawson asked members to pick up their artwork at LaCasa’s on Monday, Oct 31 11-1 pm.

Winter show: Jewish Community Center theme, “Something Old/Something New,” will be held in February. The reception will be held on Sunday, Feb. 5 from 2-4. Pick up will be on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2-4.

Spring show: Hot Shops Theme: Fusing of artistic minds ~ more information TBA Community

Art Bridge: Linda Bernett informed us that 77 students painted donated pumpkins from Valas. Next month the lesson will be about leaves.

Community Art Reach: Have need for 8 count package of Crayons which will be included in the Christmas gift from Omaha Artists to ESL students. See newsletter for other art supplies needed to be brought to the November Fun Shop.

Courtesy: Dorothy Tuma told the members a welcome card was sent to Larry Shaber and a get well card to Dick Brown. In addition, she is including former OAI members in the November Fun Shop by sending invitations to them to the November 70th Anniversary.

Fun Shop: Katie Johnson conveyed information about January’s Fun Shop. Linda Bernett: Texture in Mixed Media. No Fun Shop in December. October class had 24 attendees, taught by Katrina Swanson on cold wax medium and oil.

Host: November will be a potluck (boasting the area’s most delicious chicken and cake) celebrating the club’s 70th anniversary. Please RSVP by Wednesday November 9, so we know how much chicken/cake to order.

Newsletter: No newsletter will be printed in December.

Programs: Our speaker was Wendy Deane, the Accidental Artist, from Valley, NE.

Vice-President: Roster will be sent to printer and be mailed soon. Katie Johnson discussed the speaker for January’s program will be Martin MacNabb of Papio Creek Gems & Gifts “Jewelry, Jewelers, and Jewels.

President: Linda Bernett advised that November will be combination Fun Shop, with card making for courtesy, Pot Luck, and celebration for 70th Anniversary OAI. This includes drawing for prizes, with cake and chicken .

Art Shows: Sharon Clawson reported the LaCasa's show had a big turnout. 43 entered with 87 pieces of art. Take down will be on Monday., Oct 31 11-1 pm.

Winter show: Jewish Community Center theme will be "Something Old/Something New." Artists will be allowed to submit an "old" piece of art which has never received an award and a new piece!!! Date TBA

Spring show: Hot Shops Theme: Fusing of artistic minds – more information TBA

Community Art Bridge: Linda Bernett advised first lesson was in September “Hands” with 65 adult students lead by Pat Lontor. Oct. class will be “Pumpkins” with pumpkins donated by Valas. Linda reported that number of students will increase within the next 60 days.

The general meeting of the Omaha Artists, Inc. was held at Canvas and Cabernet on Wednesday June 15, 2016. Called to order by President Katrina Swanson.

Treasurer’s Report by Jo Anne Nielsen of $6640.86.

Committee Reports:

ANAC: Jo Anne Nielsen advised next years conference will be held in York, NE, June 7 -10, 2016. Jo Anne also announced that Honorary Mention awarded to Linda Bernett at this years conference in McCook.

Art Shows: Per Sharon Clawson the September Fall show will be held at La Casa., there is no theme. The Winter show, in February will be at the Jewish Community Center. “Something Old, Something New” will be the theme. A non awarded piece from a prior OAI show will be allowed. Spring show will be at the Hot Shops, with a theme to be determined.

Community Art Bridge: Carol Coppi thank you to the volunteers of Art Bridge and for all past donations from OAI. There will be an organization meeting in August, with classes beginning in September with Linda Bernett as the new coordinator.

Community Art Reach: Gather art supplies/kits to donate.

Courtesy: No cards sent this month

Fun Shop: Katie Johnson is setting up for next year with Katrina Swanson, Sara Wamsat, and Julie Lemons to start.

Host: September will be at Charlies on the Lake. Individual choice selections will be made off the menu. Reservations are needed for count.

Membership: Please renew before end of June in order to be printed in the roster. A reminder email and notes to be sent out for renewals.

New members and guests welcomed.

Treasurer’s Report by Jo Anne Nielsen of $6,695.65.

ANAC: Jo Anne Nielsen advised collecting pieces for conference in McCook, NE.

Art Shows: Fall show will be at LaCasa, 42nd and Leavenworth, with registration Monday Sept. 12,2016 running thru October. See newsletter for additional.

Community Art Bridge: Carol Coppi reports that May was last class for year with 44 ESL students. Thank you to all involved. Next year the program co-ordinator is Linda Bernett.

Community Art Reach: Sara Wamsat states that program was started in 2000. Donations of supplies and money were taken last week to Child Life Services.

Committee Reports:

ANAC: Selection show will be at Hot Shops on Tuesday March 29 11-1pm. See guidelines in March newsletter. If selected paperwork needs completion and pay $7.00 entry fee for limit of 2 pieces.

Art Shows: Pat Lontor reports that registration for show at Hot Shops is Tuesday March 29, 11-1pm. Reception Sunday April 3, 2-4pm. Take Down Sunday April 24, 5-6:30pm. Have publicity post cards available for show.

Community Art Bridge: Per Carol Coppi March watercolor lesson by Lourdes O’Leary with 62 students. April will also be watercolor with Linda Hatfield doing “Faces”.

Fun Shop: Katie Johnson reported great March class doing watercolor exercises with Marilyn Beig, with attendance of 21. April will be with Linda Bernett, rescheduled from January with oils.

Omaha Artists, Inc. general meeting was held on February 24, 2016 at Westside Community Center. Called to order by President, Katrina Swanson. Introduction of new member, Linda Jones, and guest, Liz Santoro. Announced Betsy Conway winner of free February luncheon. 

Treasurers Report: $7192.69 per Jo Anne Nielsen. 

ANAC: Jo Anne Nielsen announced that dues payable today for upcoming ANAC member year. Conference June 8-11,2016 in McCook, NE. 

Art Shows: Sharon Clawson advises the Winter Show Take down is this Sunday at Jewish Community Center 2-4 pm. Sold 5 pieces from the shown and very good attendance at the reception. The Spring Show registration is Tuesday March 29, 11-1pm at the Hot Shops. Theme is “Once Upon a Time– Nursery Rhymes and Fairy Tales”. Reception is Sunday April 3, 2-4 pm. Need suggestions for exhibit space for fall. 

Community Art Bridge: Per Carol Coppi the February class was compass design with attendance of 49 students. March will be March 16, Spring Flowers, a watercolor course by Lordes O’Leary.

Fun Shop: Marilyn Beig will teach water media exercises, Wednesday March 16, 2016. Drawing for free lunch. 

Programs: Todays program is Lori Elliott Bartels a cold wax artist at the Hot Shops and Artists Co-operative Gallery. March program and meeting will be at the Joslyn Art Museum, March 23, 2016. Board Meeting 10:00, 11:30-12:15 lunch at Joslyn Café, 12:30 general meeting in the Abbott Lecture Hall. Tour fee of $5.00 for non members, free with Joslyn membership for exhibit “Go West”. Our docents are club members, Cheri Oelke and Lavonne Tripp. Check in at the Atrium counter, pay your tour fee. We will have reserved tables in the Café.

Treasurers Report: $6889.37 per Jo Anne Nielsen. 

ANAC: Association of Nebraska Art Clubs: See newsletter for list of paid members. Per Jo Anne Nielsen deadline to pay for year is February 23, 2016. 

Art Shows: Sharon Clawson advises registration this Sunday Feb. 1, 2-4 pm at Jewish Community Center. Please note that JCC has 25% commission on sales. Postcards are available. Ken Heimbuch from Artists Cooperative will be judging. Reception is Sunday February 7, from 2-4 pm. April will be “Fairy Tales” at the Hot Shops. Note, that 3-D pieces have no size restrictions as no wall space is used. Limit of 3 pieces still apply. 

Community Art Bridge: Carol Coppi has been involved in Community Art Bridge for 14 years. Per Carol there were 82 ESL students that attended in December. Each received a gift bag from Omaha Artists and made tissue stars. January class did Cardinals in Snow. February class will be compass design and taught by Carol Coppi. 

Courtesy: Sympathy cards sent to families of Donna Golden and Sally Dryer. 

Fun Shop: January Fun Shop was cancelled due to weather and rescheduled to April. February 17th, will be with Dottie Seymour teaching spirit masks. There will be a drawing for a free meal at the February luncheon. 

Hostess: Carol McCall states have 31 today for the luncheon. When calling Carol for reservations you may need 1 before the number as long distance. May luncheon may be in lower level at Westside Com-munity Center. A new venue will need to be selected for next year. 

Membership: Susan Stevens advises 6 new members since October.

Programs: Katrina Swanson announced that the program today is Debra Groesser, a plein air artist, and President of the American Impressionist Society.

Omaha Artists, Inc. general meeting was held at Westside Community Center on Wed. Sept. 16th, 2015. 

Called to order by President Katrina Swanson.

New member Pam Gabriel welcomed.

Treasurer Report by Jo Anne Nielsen of $6971.41.

ANAC: Per Jo Anne Nielsen conference will be June 8-11, in McCook NE. “Go to the Art Hot Spot”.

Art Shows: Sharon Clawson advised of next show at Esprit, 178th and Maple.

Art Bridge: Carol Coppi reports loss of volunteers replaced by Linda Hatfield, Linda Bernett and Linda Leary. Example board of past work in classes brought to review. The Art Bridge program teaches art classes as part of the ESL- English as Second Language OPS programs for refugees of Burma, Bhutan, Somalia, and Sudan. This is 13th year and presently has over 60 students, splitting into 2 lessons of 30.

Art Reach: Kristina Swanson reported for Sara Wamsat, and advises that the program provides art supplies to the Children’s Lied Transplant Center. Gathered at the November Fun Shop/Pot Luck Meeting.

Courtesy: Dorothy Tuma advised to check newsletter for cards sent. Memorials were provided to the family of Lisa Lathrop, and Joslyn Museum in remembrance of Pat Hanson and Helen Patany.

Fun Shop: Katie Johnson states September Fun Shop was tissue paper collage with Lucy Hartman. October 21, will be Linda Bernett with Alcohol Inks with Zentangle Twist.

Call to order and welcome to new members : President Katrina Swanson

Treasurers Report: Jo Anne Nielsen advised balance of $5917.89.

ANAC: Jo Anne Nielsen reports that 23 pieces chosen to go to the State conference in Columbus, NE., June 10-13, 2015. Selection listed in the newsletter. Sara Wamsat announced classes to be held: Karen Thurlow- mixed media, Karen Keller,-watercolour, Tearee Caswell- fabric portrait, and wet felting. Kalle Wamsat– Boho Totem, Lisa Over- pastel, Deb Groesser limited palette oil, plein air. Deb Miller– copper enameling, and Gary Snap-welder/plasma.

Art Show: Katrina Swanson, advised pick up from the Hot Shops is April 26, 1-3pm. Contact Sharon Clawson if you need an earlier pick up date.

Community Art Bridge: Carol Coppi reports that April was a oil pastel, watercolor resist with Barba-ra Mitchell. The last session for the season will be with Marlene Dabney, pastel paper flowers.

Fun Shop: Lavonne Tripp thanked Lynde George, recipient of the Opal Parmenter Fellowship teaching collage class. Group table pieces were auctioned off, starting at 25 cents. May will be by Becky Kinloch with markers and colored pencils. This is the last Fun Shop of the year.

Hostesses: Carol McCall announced the May 27th luncheon will be at Westside, reservation deadline will be the prior week. June 17th will be a combination pot luck and garage sale at Cooper Farms.

Membership: Four new members, see newsletter for their information. Renewals can be made online. Any problems with site contact Susan Stevens.

Newsletter: Article deadline Friday April 24th per Linda Bernett.

Website: Susan Stevens requests to use online membership feature. Members wanting a personal gallery page, go to member section, my gallery, and link to request website.

New Business: Committee formed to review OAI By-laws, to be listed in newsletter for voting in May.
