April 2018 Board Meeting Minutes

Meeting held on April 25, 2018 at Charlie’s on the Lake

Called to order by President, Linda Bernett. Minutes approved from last meeting.

Treasurers report of $4,6603.33 by Jo Anne Nielsen.

ANAC: Jo Anne Nielsen reported ANAC Scottsbluff Conference will be held June 20-23.

Art Shows: The Lauritzen Gardens show registration Wed., June 6 11-1 pm, reception Sunday, June 10 2-4, and pick up Tuesday, July 24, 11-1.Gallery 92, in Fremont, will host a no theme show. Drop off is Mon., Oct. 1st from 11:00-1:00, reception will be held Friday, Oct 5 from 5:00-7pm, & take down Monday, Oct 29.

Community Art Bridge: Our president reported there were 39 ESL students who painted watercolor flowers. She was the instructor. May’s class will be led by Lourdes O’Leary titled “Funky Faces.”

Community Art Reach: Sara Wamsat requested members to keep an eye out for sale items for the Community Art Reach Program. Foam rubber stamps and rollers in particular are items in need.

Fun Shop: Katie Johnson announced 28 artists attended the brush calligraphy in April. The May Fun Shop will be taught by Rachael Mindrup – drawing the “Nose and Mouth.”

Host: Next month’s meeting will be held at Valentino’s south location.

Membership: Jo Anne Nielsen announced membership drive starts in May and dues must be collected by July 1 in order to be in the roster.

Programs: The April program was Linda Hatfield speaking on Curiosity and Creativity. Katie Johnson advised that May’s up coming program will be by Malvern Iowa’s gallery owner, Marge Boska. The September program will be with the Lincoln Arts Council. October speaker will be our past president and source of inspiration, Katrina Swanson.

Newsletter: Linda Guynn asked club members to notify her of any classes or workshops so she can print the information.

Other Announcements: Danielle Easdale will be one of two featured artists in the Passageway Gallery. Opening on Friday, May 4th 6-9 pm. Barbara Schmid-Egr will be Mangelsen’s featured artist of the month for May. Hot Shops have their Spring Open House April 29 . Linda Bernett announced nominations for board members of Katie Johnson, President, Barbara Egr, Vice President, Judy Freeland as secretary. Voting will occur at the May meeting along with the Constitution and By-Law Amendments.

Treasurers report of $4,6662.33 by Jo Anne Nielsen 

ANAC: Jo Anne Nielsen reported ANAC has 52 members. Dick Brown reported that selection show is Wednesday April 4th from 10:00 to 10:30 am at Lutheran Church of the Master. Return at noon to pick up and fill out paperwork if selected. 

Art Shows: Sharon Clawson reported Hot Shops show had five sales. See newsletter. Pick up Monday, April 2 11-1:00 pm. Lauritzen Gardens show will have Wednesday June 6 11-1 pm registration. Reception Sunday, June 10 2-4, and pick up Tuesday, July 24, 11-1. Our fall show will be at Gallery 92 in Fremont. Feb. 2019 at JCC and May 2019 at Hot Shops 

Community Art Bridge: Linda Bernett reported there were 42 students who created 3-D birds taught by Ivy Miller. Next month, Linda Bernett will teach watercolor flowers. 

Community Art Reach: Sara Wamsat informed the board that she delivered the art supplies and $250 worth of gift cards to the hospital.

Fun Shop: April 18 Fun Shop will be brush calligraphy lettering with Jennie Waltemath. 

Host: Luncheon and program for April will be held at Charlie’s on the Lake. 

Membership:.Jo Anne Nielsen announced that the membership is at 136 (117 last October). Dues for new year start in May and June and must be collected by July 1 to be in roster. 

Programs: Katie Johnson informed the board next month’s program is Linda Hatfield. 

Newsletter: Linda Guynn asked club members to notify her of any classes or workshops to print in the newsletter. The deadline is Friday. 

Unfinished/New Business: Winners of the Genie Shafer Scholarship were Danielle Easdale and Brian Brigham. Barbara Egr was the recipient of the Omaha Artists Inc. Memorial Scholarship.

Omaha Artists, Inc met on Feb 28, 2018 at Valentinos 108th and L.

Called to order by President, Linda Bernett. Minutes were approved.

Treasurers report of $6,499.13 by Jo Anne Nielsen

ANAC: Jo Anne Nielsen reported this was the last day to join ANAC. Dick Brown explained ANAC’s uniqueness as the only state wide art club constructed by all art groups in Nebraska. The annual ANAC conference will be held in Scottsbluff, June 20-23. See the newsletter regarding the selection show.

Art Shows: Sharon Clawson reported The Artful Letter take down date is Monday, April 2nd. 47 members displayed 88 pieces at Hot Shops. See the newsletter about the upcoming Lauritzen Gardens summer show.

Community Art Bridge: Linda Bernett informed that February’s class created abstract hearts. Ivy Miller will teach 3D birds to the March class.

Fun Shop: Katie Johnson reported 32 artists at February’s Fun Shop taught by Susan Stevens, the 2017 recipient of the Omaha Artist Memorial Award.

Host: Patti Kounkel announced next month’s meeting will be at Joslyn Art Museum. It was strongly suggested to purchase lunch before noon due to large numbers of patrons. A $5 tour of Ed Roche, landscape artist, work will be offered to club members. June’s meeting will be held at Soaring Wings.

Membership:.Jo Anne Nielsen announced we now have 128 members.

Newsletter: Reports due Friday.

Programs: February’s program was given by Barbara Gerringer, Executive Director of Fremont Gallery. Titled “The Rebels became the Masters: How the Impressionists Shaped Modern Art”. Next month’s program is tour of special exhibit at Joslyn Art Museum.

President: Received applications for Genie Schafer and the Omaha Artists, Inc. Memorial Scholarships have been submitted. Winners will be announced at the March meeting.

Other Announcements: Gallery 15/16 “Over 65” show features five OAI artists. The show will be from March 1-April 9. On Saturday the Hot Shops have an artist garage sale on second floor, and several other activites.

Omaha Artists, Inc. met on January 24, 2018 at Charlies on the Lake. Called to order by President, Linda Bernett.

Treasurer”s report of $5890.16 by Jo Anne Nielsen

ANAC: Jo Anne Nielsen advises to see newsletter for those who have paid dues. February 28th is the last day dues can be paid for the upcoming ANAC year.

Art Shows: Three pieces sold at the JCC show per Sharon Clawson. Take down this upcoming Tuesday. Next show at the Hot Shops, “The Artful Letter”. Description in the newsletter using index cards with the artist statements about your inspiration. A summer show will be at Lauritzen Gardens.

Art Bridge: Linda Bernett reported 46 ESL students attended January lessons with snowflakes. Cutting snowflakes and added to mat board with glitter. February lesson will be hearts.

Art Reach: Thank you for donations per Sara Wamsat.

Courtesy: Per Dorothy Tuma a welcome card sent to new member Bud Cassiday.

Fun Shops: February will be watercolors by Susan Stevens, the winner of Omaha Artist Memorial Scholarship reported by Katie Johnson.

Hostess: February 28th is the next luncheon date at Valentinos, 108th off L, per Carol McCall.

Membership: Per Susan Stevens we currently have 119 members.

Newsletter: Linda Guynn apologized about some address issues on postal members per technical difficulties.

Programs: Dan Worth, architect on restoration of murals in Nebraska courthouse in Lincoln. Next month, per Katie Johnson, our program will be with Barbara Gehringer from the Fremont Area Art Association on impressionism.

Web Administrator: Let Susan Stevens know if you are not receiving your newsletter.

Vice President: Katie Johnson requested to let her know if interested in open positions for next year, Fun Shop, Program, Vice President.

President: Linda Bernett requested volunteers for nomination committee and committee to review our roster. Read thank you from Artists Cooperative on behalf of scholarship provided to Area High School Art Exhibit from Omaha Artists, Inc. Advised to see newsletters and website for Genie Schaefer and Omaha Artists Memorial Scholarship applications.

Art Shows: Sharon Clawson reported La Casa's art show take down is Nov. 6, 11:00-1:00. See newsletter for details on upcoming show at the Jewish Community Center.

Community Art Bridge: Linda Bernett informed the board Marlene Dobney taught 44 ESL students pumpkin cubism. Linda had beautiful examples of the completed artwork. Ivy Miller will be teaching the November class and will be creating fall wreaths.

Community Art Reach: Sara Wamsat informed the group Halloween generic arty stuff will be going on sale. Please bring donations to the November pot luck and card making.

Fun Shop: Our vice president reported approximately 31 artists attended October's Fun Shop which featured watercolorist, Madalyn Bruenning. January's Fun Shop will be taught by Becky Kinloch using mixed media.

Membership: Susan Stevens announced we now have 116 members. Three new members attended the October meeting.

Newsletter: Reports due Friday, Oct. 27th.

Programs: October's program was presented by Lisa Worrall. She told the group about her Iddy Biddy Boo Designs – greeting cards and prints. November and December will have no program or meeting. In January, Dan Worth will present a power point about the mural he created for the Douglas County Courthouse.

Web Administrator: Susan informed the group the web was now updated and the winning entries of the first show are showing on our website. See newsletter for instructions on how to set up a personal gallery page.

General meeting was called to order by President, Linda Bernett.

Treasurers report of $5,570.44 by Jo Anne Nielsen

ANAC: JoAnne Nielsen reported next year’s conference will be held in Scottsbluff, NE June 20-23, 2018 and called Art in the Valley. Linda Jones will be our new ANAC committee member. Larry Lombardo, watercolorist, will judge the show.

Art Shows: Sharon Clawson reported OAI’s first show of the year at LaCasa’s included 33 artists with 59 entries. Take down is Nov. 6th. The Jewish Community show will have no theme and the Hot Shops exhibition will be “The Artful Letter.”

Community Art Bridge: Linda Bernett taught the September class with 51 students. The lesson was kaleidoscopes. Next month, Marlene Dobney will teach pumpkins in cubism style.

Community Art Reach: Sara Wamsat gave a brief history including how the Community Art Reach began. She reported contributions have significantly declined in the last few years. Various art class supplies were suggested.

Fun Shop: Katie Johnson reported approximately twenty artists attended August’s Fun Shop. Four of the twenty were guests and one joined! October’s Fun Shop will be featuring Madalyn Bruning, watercolorist. See the newsletter for supplies.

Membership: Jo Anne Nielsen announced that membership is at 114 with 5 new members. New members information will be printed in the newsletters.

ANAC: Jo Anne Nielsen reported the convention, "York in the Road; Art in the Air," will be held June 7-10 in York, NE.  ANAC newsletter is out and attendees should get their reservations in now. See newsletter for pick up and return information.

Art Shows: Sharon Clawson reported our next art show " Fusion of Artistic Minds", will be held at Hot Shops with registration Tuesday, May 2 from 11-1:00 p.m. Reception Sunday, May 7 from 2-4:00 pm and take down Sunday, May 28 from 2-4. Bob Bosco is the judge. Fall show will be at La Casa, with registration Monday Sept 18th, 11-1pm, showing thru October.

Community Art Bridge: Linda Bernett reported April lesson was Funky Faces with Lourdes O'Leary and 46 students. May is our last lesson for the school year, doing scratch art lead by Carol Coppi.

Unfinished/or New Business: Mary LaVigne, Genie Schaefer Scholarship winner advised group on her intended workshop with Carolyn Holman, doing watercolor. Susan Stevens, winner of the AOI Scholarship advised taking water color class in North Carolina, and will do a Fun Shop in February 2018 to share what she learned.

Committee Reports

ANAC: JoAnne Nielsen reported the convention, “York in the Road; Art in the Air,” will be held June 7-10 in York, NE. Members are to drop off 1-2 pieces of art for the selection show Apr. 3 from 10-10:30 at Lutheran Church of the Master upstairs. Pick up will be at noon the same day.

Art Shows: Sharon Clawson reported our next art show at Hot Shops, Fusion of Artistic Minds, will be held at Hot Shops. Registration will be held on Tuesday, May 2 from 11-1:00 p.m. Sunday, May 7th from 2-4:00 p.m. will be the reception, and take down will be Sunday, May 28th from 2-4:00 pm.

Community Art Bridge: Linda Bernett reported the March lesson was compass design with 47 students attending! April’s lesson will be funky portraits.

Community Art Reach: Sara Wamset voiced a need for basic art supplies such as acrylics, paper, pencils, erasers, and crayons for donations.

Fun Shop: 24 artists attended the enjoyable March Fun Shop taught by Sara Wamsett as reported by our vice-president, Katie Johnson. Next month’s Fun Shop will be “Wonderland Paper Flowers & Other Flights of Fancy” by Nicolle Battalle. Also, Marilyn Beig and her daughter were recognized by the club for their hard work– set up/take down and carrying supplies from the church basement to the upstairs location for Fun Shops each month.

Host: April’s general meeting will be at Valentino’s south location. May’s meeting-Charlie’s on the Lake. June’s meeting to be at Patti’s home – date to be announced.

Membership: JoAnne Nielsen delivered the good news of more new members!!!

Programs: Katie Johnson introduced the guided tour by Joslyn docents, and OAI members, Cheri Oelke and Pat Lontor ~ “Enviromental Impacts of Hunting & Fishing.” Next month’s program taught by nationally acclaimed Nebraskan artist, Susan Hart – “It’s Never Too Late!”

President: Linda Bernett awarded the Genie Schaefer Memorial Scholarships to Mary LaVigne and Debi Kibbee. The Omaha Artists, Inc. Memorial Scholarship recipient was Susan Stevens. Also, our president manned the OAI booth at Kaneko educating interested people about OAI.

Unfinished/or New Business: Barbara Egr brought forth the idea of a Crane Day Trip, spring 2018, for members. She will gather information about prices/dates. Artists could photograph, sketch cranes or the Sandhills and a show would follow.

Committee Reports:

ANAC: JoAnne Nielsen reported the convention will be held June 7-10 in York, NE. Members are to drop off 1-2 pieces of art for the selection show Apr. 3 from 10-10:30 at Lutheran Church of the Master upstairs. Dick Brown provided additional information about ANAC.

Art Shows: Show take down - February 26 from 2-4 at the Jewish Community Center. Sharon Clawson reported our next art show will be at the Hot Shops, Fusion of Artistic Minds, to be held In May.

Community Art Bridge: Linda Bernett reported January’s inclement weather reduced class size to seven students and three teachers. The lesson was winter stamping. The March lesson will be compass design.

Fun Shop: Katie Johnson reported 24 at February’s Scratchboard Fun Shop taught by Carolyn S. Mason. Sara Wamsatt will be teaching the March Fun Shop.

Host: Luncheon and meeting will be at the Joslyn Museum, followed by a tour of the current exhibit. A guided tour of “Environmental Impacts of Hunting and Fishing” will be offered to our club at a reduced rate!

Membership: JoAnne Nielsen delivered the news of 4 new members!

Programs: Katie Johnson presented Mary Gubbel, librarian and paper artist was todays program.

President: Linda Bernett requested a committee of five to review the bylaws, and a committee of three to review scholarship applications. Winners of the Genie Schaefer and Omaha Artists, Inc. Memorial Scholarships will be announced at the March luncheon and meeting. Reminder that have until March 1 for receipt of scholarship applications.

Other Announcements: Linda Bernett announced that this year’s board members are willing to remain in office for next year, 2017-2018. Nominations and voting will be in May and installation of officers at the June pot luck.
