Barbara Egr reported the Spring Virtual Art Show details: 

  • Opening May 1, Theme-Shadows; 
  • No glass or frame for Steve Reese to photo artwork; 
  • Zoom Reception with Judge Deb Murphy’s awards and comments on May 8, 2pm; 
  • Linda Bernett will co-chair the 2021-2022 shows with Sharon Clawson. 

Cookbook

Jo Anne Nielsen reported: 

  • Need more than 114 recipes in all categories except hamburger casseroles; 
  • 24 colored images chosen from LaCasa’s Nov. 2019 show, “Farm to Kitchen;”

  • Price $15-$20; consider for gifts; 
  • Katie Johnson will post the needs on OAI Facebook page; 
  • 7-9 weeks printing time; submitting to publisher on April 30.

JoAnne Nielsen reported the June 2021 Conference is canceled. There will possibly be a Virtual Art Show. More information will be in the March newsletter. New members must pay dues of $12 for 2021 membership by February 28. Current members who paidthe 2020 dues will not be charged dues for 2021 due to COVID-19 cancellations of club activities.

Barbara Egr reported the Virtual Art Show will be online and judged on February 1 by Todd Muller. The Virtual reception and judge’s comments will be available on Zoom at 2pm, Saturday, February 6.

On February 17, 9 a.m. at Lutheran Church of the Master - 114th & Center Streets Jasmine Fuller, acrylic artist, will present, “Achieving Vibrancy with Layers in Acrylic.” Reservations, social distancing and masks are required.

Sherry reported Steve Reese enjoyed photographing twelve members’ artwork and willhelp with photography needs of members for upcoming virtual shows.

Unfinished Business
Barbara Egr invited contributions to the Barbara Mitchell Memorial Fund to finance a renowned artist to present a future club-sponsored workshop.

New Business
Barbara Egr encouraged members to apply for the Genie Schafer Memorial $400 Scholarship or the Omaha Artists Inc. Memorial $500 Scholarship with March 1 deadlines. Both have the 2-year OAI member requirement. The OAI scholarship recipient will share the expertise learned at a future Fun Shop. The Scholarship Committee will be Katie Johnson, Judy Freeland, and Linda Leary.

Other Announcements or Messages:
Shirley Schmidt invited members to volunteer to help chair the 2022 Fun Shops. The 2021 Fun Shops are established.

Emmett Egr has a show at the Mayor’s Office - access through the Mayor’s receptionist.

Meeting called to order by President Barbara Egr. 

Katie Johnson (in absence of Secretary Linda Leary) read the September 23, 2020 Meeting Minutes.

ANAC – No report. 

Art Shows – Sharon Clawson, absent-no report. Discussion lead by Barbara Egr of having a virtual art show. Sherry Reese advised Steve Reese of Mervin Reese Photography would take photos of artwork $29 for the 3 entries in case we would have one. Discussion and subject tabled. 

Cookbook – Katie Johnson advised submit your recipes – see newsletter for details and deadline. 

Community Art Bridge – Linda Bernett, absent. Community Art Bridge on sabbatical due to COVID. 

Community Art Reach – Barbara Egr reported for Sara Wamsat. Bring new art supplies to the November gathering at Lutheran Church of the Master. There will be no potluck. We will be making greeting cards 9:00-12:00. Details in the Newsletter. 

Courtesy – Barbara Mathewson absent but, reported. She sent sympathy card to Donna Justsen (her sister passed), encouragement to Sheila Scarborough (husband- ill, daughter-ill, and Sheila too), Judy Freeland (husband, Mike ill). Reminder of Annual cardmaking in November. Will report supply needs in newsletter. 

Fun Shop – Shirley Schmidt reported next month – Annual Cardmaking. Details in newsletter. January will be Rainbow Glass-there will be RSVP required to be able to set up meeting times. Unfortunately, the Sue Lloyd Plein Air was cancelled due to weather. We are hoping Sue will grace us with another scheduled plein air workshop! 

GALA – Patti Kounkel reported she and Katie Johnson met prior and worked on details for the 75th Anniversary Celebration October 2021. Patti handed out a sign-up-sheet for volunteers and will be handing out sign-up-sheet each meeting. 

Hostesses – Sue Lloyd reported she has reserved Soaring Wings for June 2021 and will be setting up meeting venues January-May, keeping cost per person at $10-$15 and will keep March open for the Joslyn Art Tour – depending on COVID. 

Membership – 100 plus. 

Newsletter – Danielle Easdale advised she will give her new email to all of us on Friday to use to send articles for the newsletter and will coordinate with Susan Stevens. 

Programs – Barbara Egr again advised cardmaking next month – details in newsletter. 

Media Publicity - Katie Johnson advised she sent an email to Peg Watkins asking if she would provide the media contacts she previously gave to Nia. Katie also signed up with the activity publications through the Chamber of Commerce. 

Vice President – Sherry Reese the Feztival of Trees for 2020 was cancelled. Further, the Roster will be available and handed out at the November Meeting. Names can be added if they paid dues after the cutoff date.

1. President, Barbara Egr – Called to order 12:00pm 

2. Treasurer Report, Jo Anne Nielsen – Checking Account Balance: $5016.16 

President Barbara Egr welcomed members to the general meeting. 

Committee Reports: 

Art Shows - Barbara Egr reported the November Gallery 92 show in Fremont is cancelled since no reception is possible, the gallery is open only 9 hours a week and it is a long distance. It costs $400 for a judge, prize winners’ awards and there would be less volunteer workers due to covid. 

Cookbooks - Jo Anne Nielsen reported the recipes are slowly coming in. 

Community Art Outreach - Sara Wamsat reported Linda Jones found a 70% off sale and purchased all the colored pencils from a store. Sara told about a young hospital patient wanting to sketch. He was elated when the nurse brought him colored pencils and a sketchpad. 

Fun Shop - Shirley Schmidt reported 15 attended the watercolor class presented by Judy Freeland. October’s Fun Shop will be a plein air class with the option of oil, acrylic or watercolor. No rsvp is necessary. 

Hostesses - Linda Guynn will take reservations by phone or email at lunch@omahaartistsinc to rsvp for dinner before October 15. Valentino’s, 102nd and Maple-Dinner-$14.50 includes pizza, bread sticks and lasagna with social distanced seating. 

Program - Sue Loyd reported to Barbara Egr the October 26, 2020 program will be Photographer Ashley Stevens. Ashley has works in 5 local galleries, is a go getter and will appeal to the younger members. 

Membership - Jo Anne Nielsen is updating the roster as members send dues. There are 100 members as of September 22, 2020. 

Newsletter - Barbara Egr reported 50 members get a hard copy and no one received the September newsletters. An inquiry is being made with the United State Postal Service. 

Vice-President - Sherry Reese reported the roster will be completed by the October meeting. The non-members are deleted from the website gallery pages. 

Jo Anne pointed out in past years the rosters were distributed at the October meeting and she did not mail the remaining rosters until January of the following year. In person distribution saved $.80 a roster in addition to an envelope cost. 

New Business – Bylaws Committee - Jo Anne Nielsen reported the bylaws changes were in the newsletter. Carol Coppi made the motion and Rhonda Bruggeman seconded the motion to accept the bylaws changes. The vote to accept the bylaws changes was unanimous.

  • Katie thanked each Officer and Committee Chairman with a certificate. A volunteer photographer took Katie’s and the recipient’s picture. 
  • Katie thanked each member of the Executive Board with a rose bud. The photographer took an Executive Board group photo. 
  • Katie thanked Jo Anne Nielsen and Susan Stevens each with “Go the Extra Mile Award” gifts. 
  • Katie presented Barbara Egr with the gavel and wished her the best in her Presidency. The photography captured the photo of the transfer of the Presidency.

Omaha Artist Inc. Board Meeting Minutes February 26, 2020 Luncheon at Valentino’s.

President: Katie Johnson, absent due to illness, Barbara Egr, Vice President stepped in.
Secretary: Judy Freeland.

Treasurer: JoAnne Nielsen: Checking: $4,784.46.

ANAC: State conference will be in Fremont June 10-13, 2020. JoAnne Nielsen reported membership dues, $12, are needed to in by March 1st. Art will be chosen on April 8th at 10:00 am at Lutheran Church of The Master. Selected pieces will be announced at 12:30 same day.

Art Shows: Thank you for picking up art at Gallery 92 on March 2nd.

Chairman Sharon Clawson reported Hot Shops will host our next show, Tuesday, April 28th. Registration at 11-1. Reception will be Sunday, May 3rd at 2-4pm. Take down Sunday, May 31 at 2-4pm. Theme is “Shadows”. Hot Shops takes no commission.

Lorenzen Gardens will be our June 29th show with registration 11-1. Reception not determined yet. Take down will be September 20th, 2-4pm. Theme is “Nature of Art” and commission is 25%. Gallery 92 will be our fall show. Details in a later newsletter.

Cookbooks: JoAnne Nielsen and Susan Stevens have set May 1st as the deadline to get recipes in for the OAI cookbook.

Community Art Bridge: Linda Bernett reported 24 people attended February’s class in which stained glass hearts were made. March 4th birds will be the theme.

Community Art Reach: Sara Wamsat and Sally Calhoun reported OAI donated a $250 gift card to the Child Life Center and Lied Transplant Center. Unused art supplies are always needed. The hospital also asked for small frames (used in bereavement pouches) and mats students can place on their finished art.

Courtesy: Barbara Mathewson is sending get well wishes from all of us to President, Katie Johnson, Barbara Mitchell who is in hospice and Marilyn Beig’s daughter.

Fun Shop: Shirley Schmidt, Neva Cozine, Sheila Scarborough announced $79 was taken in February 19th at Lutheran Church of the Master’s Fun Shop. Linda Guynn demonstrated lovely jewelry making. March 18th Fun shop will be “abstracts” taught by Peg Watkins.

Luncheon/Dinner/Gala: Carol McCall and Patti Kounkel reported our Gala will be held at the Thompson Alumni Center located at UNO on October 2, 2020. They also reported an unidentified donor gave us $250 for our gala.

Membership: Chair ladies Susan Stevens and JoAnne Nielsen reported 144 members.

Newsletter: Linda Guynn asked that newsletter information be sent to her by March 7th.

Programs: Chairman Barbra Egr announced our next Board luncheon March 25, would be at The Joslyn. The program “Photography Fact and Fiction” will follow lunch. Cost is your lunch and $5 if you are not a member of the Joslyn. Our program at today’s Valentino’s lunch and board meeting was the delightful Paula Wallace. A gifted illustrator and author of children’s books. I”m sure each of us took home at least one valuable message from the informative aspects of Paula’s career that she shared with us.

New Business: Sara Wamsat shared news of an Art Garage Sale, March 14 in Fremont. For $20 you can have a table for your wares. It is located at the Art Association which is Gallery 92, 92nd West 6th, Fremont.

Barb Egr is a featured participant in an art showing in Lincoln, March 6th, 6-9pm. Location is 119 S. 9th Street. The show is “Noyes” Pop of Color. Congrats, Barb!

Omaha Artist Inc. Board Meeting Minutes: November 20, 2019. Meeting called to order by President, Katie Johnson.

Secretary: Judy Freeland read the minutes and they were approved.

Treasurer: JoAnne Nielsen reported $5,598.74.

ANAC: JoAnne Nielsen reported the next meeting will be in Fremont, June 10-13, 2020. Three workshops are planned and will be detailed in the January newsletter.

Cook Book Project: Authors JoAnne Nielsen and Susan Stevens ask that your recipes be sent to JoAnne and Susan’s emails.

Art Shows: Sharon Clawson reported we had 109 entries at La Casa November 4th. Winners will be announced in the January newsletter. Takedown is January 6, 2020, 11-1am. Our winter show will be in Fremont at Gallery 92. Registration will be Sunday February 2, 2020 at 2-4 pm. Reception, Friday, February 7th, 5-7pm. Takedown, Monday, March 2, 11-1pm. The spring show will be at Hot Shops. April 28th will be registration, 11-1pm. Reception will be Sunday, May 3 at 2-4pm. Takedown, Sunday, May 31, 2-4pm. Our summer show is at Lauritzen Gardens. Registration will be Wednesday, July 29, 11-1pm. Reception TBA. Takedown is Sunday, September 20, 2-4pm. Lauritzen Gardens will take 25%. The theme is The Art of Nature.

Community Art Bridge: Linda Bernett announced 40 people attended The November meeting. Fall leaves was the art project. In the December, the class will make Christmas wreaths.

Community Art Reach: Sara Wamsat and her new committee member, Sally Calhoun reported supplies are needed as well as donations. Donations were made by members at the November 20th Fun Shop as well as the monies collected for class fee!.

Courtesy: Barbara Mathewson reported three new members. Marsha Pavel, Carol Stolp and Chris Bolmeier. Welcome ladies.

Fun Shop: Shirley Schmidt and Neva Cozine arranged for Fun Shop participants to make greeting cards, November 20 to be supplied to Barb Mathewson’s Courtesy Committee collection. Thirty seven people attended the workshop bringing in $192. No meeting in December. January’s Fun Shop Artist and Executor Director, Barbara Gehringer from the Fremont 92 Gallery will demonstrate “paper making”.

Reservationist and Event Coordinator: Carol McCall and Patty Kounkel reserved Charlie’s On The Lake to be our board meeting/ luncheon location in January. Sarah McWilliams will present the program which will be detailed in the newsletter.

Membership: Susan Stevens and JoAnne Nielsen reported 125 active members.

Newsletter: Linda Guynn asks that all information be sent in promptly. The deadline for the January newsletter is December 26th.

Programs: Barbara Egr reported Sarah McWilliams will speak on finding our own style at the January 15th board/luncheon pro-gram. Details can be found in the newsletter.

Vice President: Barbara Egr reported Digital Express will print 250 business cards for $28. Barb Egr motioned to accept this proposal seconded by JoAnne Nielsen. Katie announced she will be out of town in January, Barb Egr, vice president will lead our January 15 board/ luncheon meeting.

President: Katie Johnson asked for a vote to create new business cards for OAI with the assistance of Susan Stevens and Jo Anne Nielsen.

Other Announcements: Three volunteers are needed by the January 15, 2020 luncheon/meeting to be on the scholarship committee headed by Linda Bernett.

The Tangier Shriners Feztival of Trees runs through November 25-30. Thank you to Linda Jones for heading up this project and to all who helped decorate ornaments for the OAI tree. Thank you also for those who volunteered to set up and decorate our tree on Thursday, November 21.

Omaha Artist Inc. General Meeting, October 23, 2019 at DC Center. President Katie Johnson welcomed guests and called meeting to order.

Secretary: Judy Freeland, previous minutes read and approved

Treasurer: JoAnne Nielsen reported $4973.88

ANAC: No new news reported

Art Shows: Sharon Clawson reports LaCasa is our fall host.Theme: “From Farm to Kitchen”. Registration, Nov. 4, 11-1pm. Reception, Monday, Nov. 11, 5-7pm. Take down Monday January 6, 2020, 11-1. Limit 3 pictures. Linda Meigs will judge our art. Winter show TBA. Hot shops will be our spring host. Theme: “Shadows”. Registration, April 30, 11-1pm. Reception, May 5th, 2-4pm. Take down May 28th, 11-1pm. Lauritzen Gardens will be our summer show location in July-August. Gallery 92 in Fremont will be our host in November, 2020.

Community Art Bridge: No report. Please bring mat board, any size to be donated Nov 20.

Community Art Reach: Sara Wamsat discusses in newsletter needs and supplies that can be donated.

Courtesy: Barbara Mathewson reported two new members, Jolene Kobout and Michelle Murdock. Barbara Mitchell is in Methodist Hospital until November 1st recuperating from a stroke.

Fun Shops: Shirley Schmidt, Neva Cozine and Sheila Scarborough reported the Oct.18th Fun Shop brought in 37 people and $177. Marilyn Beig demonstrated watercolor painting over gesso. Nov. 20th we will to decorate cards for Barbara Mathewson’s Courtesy Committee. Barb will supply cards, artists will bring their own choice of media supplies. Get Well, Sympathy, all occasion themes for the cards except Christmas. A brief board meeting will be at 11:00 am with a potluck lunch following at noon. Everyone is asked to bring a dish of their choice. This Fun Shop is located at 2617 S. 114th (upper north entrance).

Programs: Chairman, Barb Egr invited Sarah McWilliams, an impressionist artist, to be our program January 22, 2020. Sarah will help us “discover our own style”. Location of this board meeting and luncheon TBA.

Publicity: Sharon Clawson announced postcards were ready and shared several at the DC Center Dinner Meeting.

Vice President: Barb Egr announced rosters were ready and being mailed out/ those present received theirs at the dinner meeting.

President: Katie Johnson has 10 free tickets to the soft opening of the Shriner's Festival of Trees on Nov. 21st. The drawing will take place at the Fun shop on Nov. 20th. There will be another drawing that morning for a $150 donation from Dillman's Workshop given to OAI for someone to attend a Dillman’s Art Workshop Retreat in Lac du Flambeau, WI. If you want to be in that drawing, call Katie, 402-310-0349 or email and let her know. For information on Dillman’s Workshops, call Sherry Reese as she has attended in the past or review the Dillman's Bay Resort website.

Unfinished Business: Planning of the OAI cookbook is underway by JoAnne Nielsen and Susan Stevens, as well as plans for our OAI Gala in 2021 by Patty Kounkel.

Other Announcements/Information: Linda Jones will be recruiting volunteers at La Casa’s registration, Nov. 4th, for people to help decorate our OAI tree at the Shriners location. Decorating day will be Thursday, Nov. 21 at 9:00am. Sign up!
Thank you Katie Johnson for donating lights and ribbons for our tree. Katie Johnson asked for suggestions for design of new business card for Omaha Artists Inc - contact her or bring suggestions to the November 20 meeting to be decided by the board.

Treasurer, JoAnne Nielsen Report: Checking $6,027.86

A.N.A.C. The 2020 conference would be held in Fremont, June 10-13, 2020. The theme is “Art in Sight”.

Art Shows: Sharon Clawson announced La Casa will host our art November 4th. Registration on 11/4 at 11 to 1pm. Reception will be Monday, Nov. 11th, 5-7 pm. Take down January 6, 2020, 11-1pm. There will be a limit of three pictures . Theme is “From Farm to Kitchen.”

Jan. 31st The Jewish Community Center will host our art. Registration on the 31st from 11-1pm. Reception will be Sunday, Feb. 9th from 2-4pm. Take down to be announced. There will be no theme.

Our spring show will be at Hot Shops April 28 – May 31 with registration April 28, 11-1pm. Reception is May 3, 2-4pm and take down May 31st, 11-1pm.

Community Art Bridge: No new report this month.

Fun Shop: Shirley Schmidt, Neva Cozine, and new co-chair, Sheila Scarborough. Twenty two attended the Fun Shop Wednesday, September 18th. $88 was collected. Nancy Lepo demonstrated ink pointillism. Her examples were stunning. Thank you, Nancy. Wednesday, Oct. 16 Fun Shop, Marilyn Beig will demonstrate gesso over watercolor.

Host/Hostess: Carol McCall and Patti Kounkel have planned our first evening Board meeting. Wednesday, October 23 will begin with Board meeting at 5:30pm at the DC Center, 11830 Stonegate Dr. Buffet Dinner will begin at 6:30, A general meeting will follow with the program on metal art given by Janna Harsh from Impact Nebraska Art. Please make your reservation by October 14th to Carol McCall.

Membership: Susan Stevens announced 167 members, 119 active. Remember to get your dues in to Jo Anne or Susan.

Programs: Barbara Egr announced the program speaker at our evening meeting in October will be Janna Harsh from Impact Nebraska Artist. She will discuss her skills in metal art. January meeting program will be Paula Wallace speaking on the topic of “so you wanna publish a book!”.

Publicity: Sharon Clawson will be promoting art shows with cards available by the Fun Shop or the General Meeting/Program. Nia Karmann is trying to find contact names for the media.

Webmaster: Susan Stevens reported no new information.

Vice President: Barb Egr advised the roster will be ready for the printing shortly. .

President: Announced Patti Kounkel will be the Event Coordinator for the Gala and Jo Anne Nielsen and Susan Stevens will be heading up the OAI Cookbook!
Unfinished Business: October 16 Fun Shop and October 23 Program are the deadlines to get ornaments in for our tree in the Shriners Festival of Trees.

New Business: A big thank you to Linda Jones and her brother, Mike Jones who donated $100 toward a train to go around the OAI Tree . Members signed a card for Mr. Jones.
