JUROR'S STATEMENT
It was a pleasure to view the 80 plus pieces of art submitted for the current fall
show. I was pleased to see such a wide variety of media on display, which combined
with various means of creative expression, made for an exhibition that would appeal
in one way or another to almost anyone. Additionally, all of the entries were
framed/matted in a professional manner, which added to the appeal.
I wasn’t exptecting to see as many photographs as I did, and in some cases, it
appeared that images were manipulated in PhotoShop, which added a creative edge
to the imagery. Even though the three dimensional pieces were few and far between,
two assemblage pieces caught my eye, for their originality and ingenuity, one of
which, Second Sight, was given the top award.
In addition to the eight ‘ribboned” awards, I felt the need to mention four other
artworks that deserve the juror’s comment. They are:
Peaches and Cherries, by Judy Maniscalco, Just Visiting by Donna Hill and
From My Porch by Barbara Mitchell - all of which showed a high degree of
proficiency in the use of watercolor. The Maniscalco painting of an arrangement
of fruit on a plate was designed well, with the edges of the plate forming the outer
border of the work. The Vocalist by Doris Lewis Burgess drew my eye because
of the expressive face of the model, the fine line work and color choice.
I would encourage all the artists represented in the show to continue in their
artistic pursuits and also for continued success in the future.
