I grew up in the panhandle of Oklahoma in the country and went to a consolidated school in a very small town of 400 people. The school had no art classes. I was so fortunate when I was sixteen. A commercial artist from Dallas, Texas, moved to my home town and gave me private art lessons for two years, starting with the basics in pencil, charcoal, perspective drawing, etc.
Along with some scholarships, I was fortunate to attend a small college forty miles away for two years, then on to Oklahoma State University where I got a B.F.A. in Art. In those four short years I took a lot of interesting classes in pottery, oil painting, watercolor, etc ... all of which I really enjoyed. I had several interesting jobs, but I always came back to art.
But it was in 1995 when I took a watercolor seminar from Rose Dein that watercolor soon became not only my favorite medium, but my "passion." A few years later I took a second seminar from her because whe was fantastic. Since then I have taken seminars from Ken Hosemea, George Kountoupis, and just recently from Kadyn Hohman.
