Virginia Hemenway
As a child I was introduced to the magical world of art. My mother encouraged us to be creative at a very early age, and eventually sent us to the Joslyn Art Museum on Saturdays for group lessons for several years. However, as I matured, my parents discouraged further development and stressed careeers that you could "live on." I went into nursing which is both an art and a science.
While listening to lectures, regardless of subject matter, I always tried to catch the expression on the lecturer's face along with the pertinent notes. I loved to sketch my chidren and pets over the years as I could in my tight schedule.
Now, after forty plus years of nursing and raising seven chiren, I have gone back to my first love - ART. Line and color, reality, fanasy, people and nature are all of interest to me. I work primarily in oils, but have entered group shows with oils, pastels, watercolors, and pencil, and enjoy doing multiple media works.
I have won "Best in Show,"one Grumbacher Award, and some honorable mentions. My pictures have appeared in exhibits of two local art exhibits, ANAC shows, and SOUP AND ART.
Although I have not actively marketed my pictures, several have been purchased and I have done a little commission work.
