About Us
Omaha Artists, Inc. was organized to promote the appreciation and development of fine art in and around the Omaha, Nebraska, area. Membership is comprised of active artists ranging from successful professionals to "Sunday painters." The group was begun in February 1946, with thirty members, and over the years has shown great progress both in size and scope of activities.
The General Meeting is usually a luncheon held the fourth Wednesday of each month followed by a business meeting. An art-related program is then presented. Omaha Artists, Inc. does not meet in July, August, or December. The October meeting is held in the evening with cocktails, dinner, and an art-related guest speaker.
Monthly workshops (Funshops) are held with highly qualified instruction offered on a variety of subjects such as drawing, watercolor, acrylics, etc. Omaha Artists Funshops meet on the third Wednesday of the month from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The fee is $4.00 for members and $5.00 for non-members. Artists are responsible for bringing their own supplies as designated in the newsletter by the instructor of the workshop.
Omaha Artists, Inc. maintains a library of books and videotapes dealing with various art subjects, techniques, and media. They may be checked out through the club llibrarian.
The dates and places of art shows are published in the Roster each year to allow members time to prepare their works. Suitable locations and excellent judges are carefully selected for these events. Cash awards are given.
Information on all meetings, programs, art shows, Funshops, opportunities, and other activities are always printed in the "Portfolio," the Omaha Artists newsletter, which members receive monthly, except in July, August, and December.
In the fall of 2002 , Community Art Reach was formed for the promotion of art around the region. The members volunteer time, talents, and donate art supplies for community based projects. Part of the project is to provide help to new Nebraskans in the Sudanese communiy in the form of art classes and fellowship. They instruct on the second Wednesday of each month. Through this year long donation of art supplies, the membership also provides the contents for art packets and art "closets" which are given to child-related organizations, including Ronald McDonald House, Lied Transplant Center, and Child Saving Institute. Each child receives his or her own art packet to keep. The oranizations are also given supplies in quantities for group art projects and a storage container that is restocked by Omaha Artists, Inc. when requested.
In 2005 the club's website was launched giving members an opportunity to display their work on the web, and providing the community with information about the organization. Fee for particiation in the site is $20.00 per year.
Omaha Artists, Inc. currently has over 120 members. Yearly dues are $20.00.
Membersip in the Association of Nebraska Art Clubs (ANAC) is also available through Omaha Artists, Inc. The fee is $7.00 per year. This membership enables artists to participate in the statewide art compeition that is held yearly in conjunction with the annual ANAC Conference.
